The best pub food on the Isle of Wight.
Good innings.
The best pub food on the Isle of Wight ranks among the finest in the country. After all, our Island enjoys an abundant natural larder, stocked with hook-fresh seafood, free-range meats and locally grown vegetables. The ales, too, are top-class. We're lucky enough to have a handful of excellent breweries, including Yates (Spring Fever, Sun Goddess, Golden Ale) and Goddards (Squirrel, Inspiration, Ale of Wight).
There are dozens of pubs dotted around the Island's charming towns and country trails. Here are a few of our favourites – all within easy driving distance of Tapnell Farm.
The Cow.
Tapnell Farm • Burgers, steaks and vegan options
If you're visiting, you'll be pleased to know we serve some of the Isle of Wight's best pub food right here at Tapnell Farm. The Cow, our on-site restaurant, serves award-winning burgers, perfectly cooked steaks and tempting side dishes, as well as tasty vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. All are cooked with care and use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Plus, with an extensive drinks menu and equally extensive views, it's a great excuse to enjoy a tipple while taking in the scenery.
Indoor tables are limited and must be booked in advance. However, there's plenty of outdoor seating with excellent views.
The Red Lion.
Freshwater • Modern British
Named 'Dining Pub of the Year' three times, The Red Lion has a strong claim for the best pub food on the Isle of Wight. The pub prides itself on using locally sourced fish, meat and vegetables, and even has its own large herb garden. From these raw ingredients, it conjures up delights like slow-cooked pork cheek, salted cod and vegan tortellini. And the location is equally special – the Lion hides down a quiet country lane, next to a historic church. You can walk there from Tapnell.

The Pointer Inn.
Newchurch • Traditional British
You'll find The Pointer Inn perched on the High Street in the sleepy village of Newchurch. Dating back 600 years, it's one of the oldest pubs on the Island – and now, as then, it delights travellers with good comfort and good cuisine. The Pointer is famous for its food, ales and friendly service, and was crowned 'Country Village Pub of the Year' by Fuller's in 2013. The Sunday roast, too, is award-winning – and well worth the 30-minute drive from the farm.

The Highdown Inn.
Totland Bay • British/European
Tucked away to the south of Totland, this small country pub is easy to miss. But those who seek it out will be rewarded with heaps of local character and some of the best pub food on the Isle of Wight. Like many Island pubs, it takes full advantage of our fertile land and coast. Think fresh seafood platters, local game and just a touch of continental flair.

tom - Tripadvisor | 03 / 2026We had such a lovely time at Tapnell farm today.
It has so much for the nippers to do.
The highlight was the animals encounters. The young lady who ran the activities ( wallaby feeding and guinea pigs) was very knowledgable and was lovely with the children. They can’t wait to come back!!
JG6361 - Tripadvisor | 04 / 2026We visited the end of March and had a lovely full active day, I’m 62, my friend is 75 and my 18 year old daughter had so much fun, trying out all the activities, seeing, petting and feeding the animals. Because of the time of year there was no queuing for anything but I can image it gets very busy during peak season so I would expect a lot of queuing which I’m sure would impact he enjoyment of the day. There is so much to do at Tapnell, animals, giant inflatable pillows, climbing, sliding, trampolines, go karts, coasters the list is endless and it was refreshing to find that every single activity was included in the price, no added extras to add onto the cost of the day. We used the coffee shop which was reasonably priced too. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Bethany & EmilyWe are so glad we decided to get married at East Afton. The organisation from Chloe and the team was perfect from start to finish. Most of our guests were able to stay with us at the venue over the wedding period which meant we got to spend lots of quality time with them, and we couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful setting. We would not hesitate to recommend getting married here!
Zoe & MartinWe can't thank Chloe and all the staff at East Afton enough for their support, hospitality & professionalism. The venue is spectacular, all the finer details were executed exactly as we had been planning with Chloe for 18 months, and we truly can't fault anything at all. Kev prepared a gorgeous meal & evening buffet, the staff were professional & friendly, the recommendations for band & DJ couldn't have been more right for us. We had the most amazing & perfect day, memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Thank you again & hope that we can come back for an anniversary or two!
Gina & MattEverything at East Afton farmhouse was absolutely perfect - we really couldn't have wished for a better location for our wedding. Having use of the venue and all of the facilities in the days leading up to the wedding was so ideal and meant that we could enjoy time together before the big day and get everything ready ahead of time. The farmhouse and all of the facilities are fab - our wedding was the first in the brand new events barn and it is simply stunning! We couldn't recommend this venue more highly!
Jess & WillHonestly couldn’t recommend it enough, it’s worth every penny! The accommodation is beautiful and all the rooms are so well finished and comfortable. The house has everything in it you could need and the barns are just beautiful. It’s the perfect location for a wedding and all in one place. So many of our guests complimented it and everyone had an amazing time. The best part is the staff, Chloe and the team were so responsive and helpful from the start and we can’t thank them enough for helping to make our day perfect.
Mrs & Mrs BradshawEast Afton Farmhouse really did give us the best day of our lives. Both me and my partner we're completely overwhelmed with how beautiful the venue was, as we're our guests! The staff here we're more than helpful and really support you as a couple to help bring your visions to life and facilitate as best as they can your wishes/ideas. We can't think of a single thing that we would change about our experience, from the planning of the wedding to the actual day, it was all perfect!
Sarah & Jason...with the whole experience, we stayed for the 4 nights in the Farmhouse and had our wedding reception in the 2 barns and its was all out of this world! It is super stunning but the best part is how unbelievably helpful the Managers Chloe and Mel are and how great ALL the staff were. I felt very reassured of a smooth run on the day and no ask was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
Alex & CariadWe would like to thank Chloe and the team for making our day so magical! From the moment we arrived we were looked after. The venue is stunning, the service amazing and our day was simply perfect. An absolutely beautiful venue with amazing people to make the day just as we wanted it
Evelyn & Nick JoyceThank you so much for all your help in organising our wedding. We had the most amazing day and East Afton Farmhouse was the perfect location. Your staff were fab too! Would highly recommend.
TripAdvisor | 07 / 2023The Aqua park and football golf the kids loved it and was a reasonable price as well. The weather was raining but that never stopped them playing they had great fun
TripAdvisor | 08 / 2024Brilliant place to stay with the family and dog.
TripAdvisor | 07 / 2025We've been to a number of waterparks over the years but this was by far the best. Easy to book, well organised, changing (communal as well as separate), showers great safety, food and drinks available, reasonably priced and a huge range of activities for different age-range kids. Whoever came up with this place thought of everything!
TripAdvisor | 08 / 2024The Cow Restaurant is a must. Delicious food.
TripAdvisor | 08 / 2025We ate at The Cow, and I honestly can’t exaggerate enough how good the food was. Steak on the first night, Caesar salad for lunch the next day – both absolutely delicious, perfectly priced, and easily on par with the best restaurants and pubs back home. We ended up eating there twice because it was just that good.
TripAdvisor | 10 / 2025Lovely peaceful site stayed in a modulog with gorgeous views and all you would need plus hot tub and fire pit would highly recommend. Site very well maintained and the staff very helpful and friendly went above and beyond to help.
TripAdvisor | 10 / 2021Booked a long weekend break for the whole family + dog as a surprise 70th birthday treat for my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed it, the cabin style accommodation was really nice and for a group of 6 adults, 2 toddlers and a dog it did not seem cramped at all. The on site attractions were just right for the kiddies and we didn't have to go off site for anything, plenty to see and do. Heartily recommend it for people of all ages.
TripAdvisor | 04 / 2022We stayed 4 nights in the dome meadow in the most beautiful dome tent. On arrival the accommodation was spotless and so well presented with everything we needed for our stay. The dome was heated with a Dyson heater so we had a lovely warm welcome. The fridge was stocked with fresh milk and cold water, the fires were ready to be lit and all our beds were being warmed by electric blankets ready for the evening. The farm park was a 5 minute walk across the field, past the lambs and llama!! I have already recommended our stay to friends and we hope to be returning soon!!
Phil BLoads to do both indoors and out! A lovely coffee/cake selection including GF options!!
Sandwiches and meals available as well although we took a packed lunch which we could eat either outside or in the huge barn area (which includes a play area/go kart track!)
Sophie Knight | 12 / 2025I stayed in the module log cabin and everything was perfect — exactly as described on the booking website. The place was also very dog friendly, which made the trip even better. I just have to make a special mention of how impressive the fridge was in the accommodation — it really exceeded expectations. Highly recommend!
Brenda Iron | 01 / 2026Christmas 2025 Tapnell farm was a magical experience. They really exceeded expectations this year. Great value for money. Great activities, my granddaughter age 8, really believed she was in the Northpole, and when the snow came down it brought such joy to my granddaughter. Santa and Mrs clauses were the best. The elfs were fun and helpful.
Well done Tapnell farm
Wendy | 11 / 2025We only spent the afternoon here and with only one 5 year old that was fine. But with more kids or older ones I think you could easily spend the whole day here.
Carrie | 12 / 2025So much to do for the kids. Football golf was a huge success with my footie crazy boys. The animal park was great, we especially loved feeding the wallabies.
